In Persuasioni (persuasions), a series of drawings dedicated to coastal plants, the artist uses sand as a painting material and plays with the persuasive power the plant evokes in its relationship with the land. These drawings express the attempt to retain the sand, essential for the life of the very plants they reproduce. At the same time, they clash with the futility of this gesture, which will not prevent the sea from advancing or the coastline from eroding.
The artist draws inspiration from the Venetian coast washed by the Adriatic Sea, specifically Bibione. Here, as in other parts of the Italian coastline reshaped by human activity to accommodate mass tourism, the coast has undergone significant morphological change, which now requires large-scale replenishment efforts to be filled with sand and made habitable again.
In Persuasioni, la serie di disegni dedicati alle piante costiere, l’artista usa la sabbia come materiale pittorico e gioca col potere persuasivo che la pianta evoca nella sua relazione con la terra. I disegni manifestano il tentativo di trattenere la sabbia, essenziale per la vita delle piante che essi stessi riproducono, ma si scontrano con la vanità del gesto, che non impedirà al mare di espandersi né alla costa di erodersi.
Quella da cui prende spunto l’artista è la costa veneta bagnata dal mar Adriatico, dove sorge Bibione. Qui come in altre località della costa Italiana i cui profili sono stati ridisegnati dall’antropizzazione per accomodare il turismo di massa, la costa ha prodotto un notevole cambiamento morfologico, necessitando di ingenti azioni di ripascimento per essere rimpolpata di sabbia ed abitata dall’essere umano.
